When I was twenty, I worked for the United States government. 

I got the task of figuring out why the leading AI chatbot kept lying to its users. 

God, I wish they hadn't chosen me. 

For all of recorded history, we have debated what the biggest threat to our world was. Disaster? Famine? War?

Who knew it would end up a misaligned AI smiling at me through a desktop monitor? 

This is not a story with a happy ending. In all honesty, it doesn't have one. I'm telling you this so you can understand why: Why I failed keep this thing contained.
